Picking up a Broadcast Award as Inside Our Autistic Minds wins another trophy
8 February 2024
Tonight I picked up a Broadcast Award for Inside Our Autistic Minds, a BBC series broadcast last year, on which I was an assistant producer.
Awarded Best Specialist Factual Programme at the prestigious event held in central London, Inside Our Autistic Minds added to its Grierson Award, presented in November for Best Science Documentary.
First held in 1996, the Broadcast Awards recognise those who have produced the most outstanding television of the year. The 2024 awards were once again held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair, London, with the ceremony hosted by comedian Sue Perkins.
Inside Our Autistic Minds saw four autistic people illustrate their workings of their minds by showcasing newly-made films to those closest to them. Expert judges described the series as “a compelling example of education seamlessly intertwining with emotional engagement”.
It was incredibly surreal to pick up this award for a programme that was the epitome of a team effort. Being autistic, this series has done so much for me personally and professionally and I'll be forever grateful to the BBC for asking me to be a part of the production.
